As of July 24, 2009, the Federal Minimum Wage will increase to $7.25 per hour.
All employers are required to raise employee pay to at least $7.25 per hour no later than July 24, 2009. To ease the burden on employers, the FLSA has made increases to the minimum wage in graduated steps.
- July 24, 2007 – increase to $5.85 per hour
- July 24, 2008 – increase to $6.55 per hour
- July 24, 2009 – increase to $7.25 per hour
Many states also have minimum wage laws. In cases where an employee is subject to both state and federal minimum wage laws, the employee is entitled to the higher minimum wage.
