The Affordable Care Act (ACA) eliminates pre-existing conditions for all members of health insurance plans.
Effective January 1, 2014, this provision allows instant access to health benefits. Coverage in a health insurance plan will no longer be excluded for any member, regardless of age, previous health insurance coverage (or lack thereof), or health conditions existing prior to joining the plan. Members with pre-existing conditions will also no longer be charged higher premiums.
The pre-existing exclusion has been eliminated for children under age 19 since 2010. This provision under the ACA extends it to the rest of the American population.
